The University of Gondar is Ethiopia’s oldest medical institution. It was founded in 1954 as the Public Health College and is located in Gondar, Ethiopia’s former capital. The university had 42 undergraduate and 17 graduate programs in 2010. The university provides 56 undergraduate and 64 postgraduate programs as of 2016. These are divided into five colleges (College of Medicine and Health Sciences, College of Business and Economics, College of Natural and Computational Sciences, College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Faculty of Agriculture, and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Faculty of Agriculture), as well as three schools (School of Law, School of Technology, and School of Education
