The effects of climate change are exacerbating food security issue as many smallholder and subsistence farmers rely on rain-fed agriculture. Civil unrest and violence has added to the challenges people in Ethiopia face.
Located in East Africa and bordered by Eritrea, Somalia, Kenya and Sudan, Ethiopia is the oldest independent country in Africa and the world, interrupted only by a weak five-year Italian colonization. The Enumerator will be responsible for conducting in-depth interviews with Key Informants (KII), Focus Group Discussions (FGD), and community-led development (CLD) tool assessment of targeted R2G beneficiaries and partners. The KIIs and FGDs will be conducted using semi-structured questionnaires and guides to elicit responses for the qualitative study, while the CLD tool assessment will be conducted using structured questionnaires to gather responses for the study.
- Enumerators Major Roles and Key Responsibilities:
Participate in an online mentoring session, training session on realist inspired interviewing, data collection tools with the Global Research Team, online or face to face training session on CLD tool assessment, R2G project.
Participate in Pre-Testing and Piloting Questionnaire (Test data collection tools).
Data Collection & recording:
Conduct face-to-face interviews with the selected respondents.
Transcribing or recording.
Note-taking. Interviews will be documented using notes taken by the enumerator.
Translate the transcription and voice records from Amharic to English language.
Data Entry, Data cleaning, and Data verification: Enumerators will write up interviews using specially-designed Data Entry forms.
Conduct CLD tool assessments.
Fill in and submit to supervisor timesheets detailing the level of effort per day worked.
- Job Requirement
- Qualifications:
A minimum of a Degree in Statistics, Agriculture, Agricultural economics, Food Security, Health and Nutrition, Disaster Risk Management, Economics, monitoring and evaluation, and any other related Social Sciences.
Must be Ethiopian national with good communications skills of English language (both oral and written), and knowledge of the local language (Guragegna) will be an advantage.
Concrete experience in translating written answers or recorded audios from English to Amharic and Vice Versa.
Previous experience in qualitative data collection such as KII, FGD and CLD tool facilitation is highly desirable, with examples provided where possible.
